H-Notch Corners, the starter half logPreparing The Starter Half Log

Turn the log you just notched so that the exterior round profiled side is facing down and rip the log exactly in half.

Hint:
Using blocks to secure the position of the log makes work a lot easier.

Note:
The half of the log with the tongue is your starter course. The starter course should be used on the gabled side of the house. The half of the log with the groove will be used as the final course of the same wall.

Install the half log that has the tongue on the starter plate. Make sure to caulk the bottom of the log where it meets the starter plate. Use the same fastening and sealing procedure employed on the butt and pass corner. Make sure to countersink lag bolts.
