Becoming a Glu-Lam-Log Dealer

back to FAQs

I really like your products, and am interested in becoming a dealer. How do I go about this?

Since there are so many variables involved in dealership, your best bet is to get in touch with Phil Alman directly to make sure he addresses your individual concerns. You can contact him by filling out the information request form on the web site by calling (406) 777-3219, or by e-mailing him directly. He’d be more than happy to answer you questions, and give you more information about becoming a representative.

What are your requirements for becoming a dealer?

We don’t really have any specific requirements; however, experience tells us that successful builder/dealers should have a firm grasp on the entire process of building a log home. There are a lot of steps involved, such as finding or drawing up plans, locating and purchasing required permits, choosing and ordering the right products, and so on. You will have more success as a builder/dealer if you have the capabilities or the connections to efficiently take care of these issues on behalf of the customer.

Do I have to have a model home?

We don’t require that our representatives have a model home, but you’ll find that having a finished product to show potential customers will have great benefits. The best way to convince someone that our products are right for them is to give them a first-hand look at the results they can expect. If you aren’t able to build a strict model home, we suggest that you stay in touch with the owners of homes that you have built, and use them as a resource. Many people are more than happy to show off their own homes.

Do you have dealer contracts and territories?

We don’t really have territorial contracts with anyone, but our handshake is as good as any other contract. If you are doing a good job of promoting our products, we will send customers your way. We do take care and try not to put dealers on top of one another in order to avoid regional conflicts.

Are there areas where you don't have representation?

While we do have a fairly extensive builder/dealer network, there are always spots on the map where we don’t have any representation. As start, we suggest you check out our dealer page to see if there’s anyone listed in your area. To get more detailed information, simply contact Phil Alman directly. You can use the info request form on the web site, e-mail directly, or call Glu-Lam at (406) 777-3219.

Do you insist that your dealers offer Glu-Lam products exclusively?

We’re not so arrogant to think that our products represent all options, so we encourage you to offer other alternatives to your customers; however, we do ask that dealers only offer other products that we don’t provide. For example, we would encourage you to offer handcrafted log homes from another company, since this is a product we don’t offer.

Do you deal directly with end users?

While we do deal directly with end users in some cases, approximately 90% of our business goes through builders or dealers with whom we’ve established relationships. It simply works out better for the customer if they have an experienced log home builder or dealer that they can deal with locally.
