Located in rural Massachusetts, this home was built with our standard 6x8 D-shaped logs.

Our traditional milled logs are available in a wide range of profiles, thicknesses, stack heights, and species. From the highly popular 6x8 D Logs with integral drip lip to the rustic hand hewn 8x12 stack chink logs, we’ve got a log to suit almost every taste. In fact, logs are available in sizes ranging from 4x6 to 8x12 and most profiles are available in single and double tongue and groove configurations. Our most popular logs are made from western white woods (Lodgepole Pine / Engelman Spruce mix ) but we also mill logs from Western Red Cedar and Fir/Larch.

Our new hand crafted, hand peeled profile adds a new dimension to D-Logs. The extra deep curvature adds depth and allows for hand peeling.

Introducing New Hand Crafted Profile Traditional Milled Logs

In response to numerous requests we’ve now introduced a D-Log Pattern with an extremely deep curvature exterior profile. Available only in the 8x8 size, the exterior of the log closely resembles a full 8” round log. If you prefer a hand crafted look, the exaggerated curvature allows plenty of room for hand peeling. We’re happy to provide that service at a nominal extra charge. We can also arrange for a hand hewn look on any of our logs.

Custom Log Patterns Available…

When you’ve been in business as long as we have you accumulate a wide array of profile knives and a lot of knowledge you won’t find published in any books. So, if you’re planning an addition and need to match the logs on an existing home, or if you need a custom profile, give us a call. We can’t promise we’ll always be able to match a desired profile, but we’ve been quite successful in doing so in the past.

Stacks of 6x6 logs that were custom milled for an addition to an existing log home. We were able to almost exactly match the original log profile, which was produced by a mill that had ceased operation.

Single and double tongue and groove logs are available. Both provide a double seal. Selection is really a matter of personal preference.

Single T&G Log		Double T&G Logs
Single tongue and groove logs actually provide a double seal. Foam tape is applied to the slot milled into the tongue of the log and a quarter inch bead of caulk is applied to the bevelled front edge of the tongue. The foam tape creates a barrier to air infiltration by wiping against the groove of the log above. The caulk is aligned with the front edge of the groove to provide a second seal. Single T&G logs have slightly more bearing surface than double T&G logs.		Double T&G logs rely on two strips of foam tape -- one on top of each tongue --- for the sealing mechanism. The strips of foam tape are compressed and wipe against the groove of the log above, forming an air infiltration barrier. Double T&G Logs have slightly less bearing surface than single T&G logs, but the space between the tongues allows the builder to center fasteners without hitting the tongue.
