A Look and Size For Every Taste…

	Their New England roots motivated Phil & Elaine Alman, co-owners of Glu-Lam-Log, to choose the double shiplap exterior cedar log profile for the home they built in Montana. They are heating this 3,200 square foot house for less than $200 per year.

Our laminated logs are available in a dozen profiles, two standard stack heights and three thicknesses….and most logs are available in both single and double tongue and groove configurations. Because we laminate, we’re also capable of combining different wood species in the same log. For example, the outside of your home can feature the beautiful grain structure and color of western red cedar while the interior features a bright, clean, knotty pine look. From D shaped or Round/Round logs, to double and single shiplap logs, to old fashioned rectangular chinked logs….there’s a pattern to complement almost any design and location.

Introducing -- New Hand Crafted Laminated Logs.

One of our key people in the plant, takes a look at the first few hand crafted, hand peeled laminated logs from our initial production run. Homes are already under construction with the new logs.

Most of our clients instantly recognize that the intrinsic stability, strength, and crack resistance of our laminated logs solve most of the problems typically associated with log home construction. However, a good number have requested a rounder, less perfect, more rustic looking exterior face on our laminated logs. After years of working on this concept we are proud to announce the availability of a new line of “handcrafted” laminated logs designed to meet this need. Initially, the logs will feature an exterior milled from 3x8 stock and will only be available in 7.3” stack height. The exterior profile is available in both a smoothly milled and a hand peeled configuration and the profile will approximate the curvature of an 8” diameter round log. The exterior lamination of this log is specifically designed to look more rustic so small checks are possible and even desirable.

Single and double tongue and groove logs are available.  Both provide a double seal – Selection is really a matter of personal preference.

Single T&G Log		Double T&G Logs
Single tongue and groove logs actually provide a double seal. Foam tape is applied to the slot milled into the tongue of the log and a quarter inch bead of caulk is applied to the bevelled front edge of the tongue. The foam tape creates a barrier to air infiltration by wiping against the groove of the log above. The caulk is aligned with the front edge of the groove to provide a second seal. Single T&G logs have slightly more bearing surface than double T&G logs.		Double T&G logs rely on two strips of foam tape -- one on top of each tongue --- for the sealing mechanism. The strips of foam tape are compressed and wipe against the groove of the log above, forming an air infiltration barrier. Double T&G Logs have slightly less bearing surface than single T&G logs, but the space between the tongues allows the builder to center fasteners without hitting the tongue.
