The Log Homes Manufacturer

Bob Smith and Phil Alman, Glu-Lam-Log owners
What does 'logs only' mean?

Our 'logs only' approach means you avoid the overhead, the extra costs, and the markup that kit manufacturers are forced to build into their log homes.

Our strict specifications, hand grading, and careful sorting ensure that waste is kept to an absolute minimum. You pay only for the logs you need.

You built your reputation on laminated logs, but the Herzog's home is made from solid cedar logs. How come?

Laminated logs will always be our primary focus but it didn't take us long to realize that some people prefer the more rustic look of solid logs. To these customers, the natural tendency of solid wood to check is part of the character of the log.

That's why we mill solid house logs from standing dead western white woods, or, like the Herzog house, air dried western red cedar.

Whether the client prefers the crack free furniture-like finish of our laminated logs or the more rustic appearance of our solid logs they can count on us evaluating every stick as if it were going to be stacked in our own homes.

There are a lot of sources for logs by the foot ... why choose Glu-Lam-Log, Inc.?

Our concern for quality drives us to make these logs the best they can be.

We use only the highest quality kiln dried western lumber in our laminated logs and hand select every piece to assure that only the most beautiful material is used for the visible interior and exterior laminations. The logs are milled to an extraordinarily smooth finish and every one is graded and approved as a structural laminated beam.

Our western red cedar logs begin with Canadian stock that is graded "standard or better with no prior selection". We air dry the material patiently and carefully to minimize checking. The logs are then milled and carefully trimmed to remove any undesirable material. You pay only for usable material. The average cedar log leaves our plant with a moisture content of 12% - 15%. Logs milled from standing dead Western White Woods feataure a "no bug hole spec" and every log is trimmed to remove visibly defective material.

All logs are wrapped in high quality plastic and tightly banded so they arrive in the same condition as when they left the plant.

Let's talk bottom line...

Builders and homeowners expect high-quality logs from us and that's what they get. As we like to say, "The bone pile stays here!" Reliable quality means our logs stack faster and the builder can confidently remove rough openings and excessive waste from his calculations. That results in big cost savings because less time and fewer logs are needed to complete a home. In addition, because of the 'logs only' approach, you don't have to wait for us to precut or prebuild your home. You don't put down a deposit months in advance. Your money works for you longer and your logs can ususally be ready for shipment in four weeks or less.

Every stick of wood is hand selected by licensed graders. TPI (Timber Products Inspection), an authorized third party agency, makes regular, unannounced inspections of both our laminated logs and solid logs. Their reports indicate that 100% of our laminated logs meet or exceed L3 Laminated Beam specifications and that 100% of our solid logs meet or exceed Wall Log 40 standards. In fact, 80% of our solid logs exceed this specification.

Glu-Lam-Log now offers complementary products of the same high quality to enable you to order siding, decking, or trim to match the log profile you have chosen.
