Glu-Lam-Log log cabin siding, home remodel

We often hear the old saw, "No news is good news" but that's usually not the case when it comes to our relationship with the vast majority of our customers. Most of the builders we work with and their clients end up being happy with our products and very proud of their results. We get a lot more compliments than complaints but, to be honest we don't get a whole lot of direct feedback directly from homeowners. So, when we received e-mail from Linda Bernardi saying…"I thought I would take an opportunity to send you our before and after pictures of our cabin. We are thrilled with the results." … it really made our day. It adds real meaning to what we do when satisfied clients have the courtesy and thoughtfulness to show us how they used our products to enrich their life styles. The best building and remodelling projects almost always have three things in common: an interested and creative homeowner, well chosen materials that meet budgetary and aesthetic goals, and a conscientious and trustworthy builder who always has the best interest of his client in mind. Rick Rockey is exactly that kind of builder.

The DeBernardis had already worked with Rick on other projects, so when they decided that they wanted to upgrade the look of the exterior of their cabin they looked to Rick for professional help. The goal was to give a log home look to a structurally sound, but not too glamorous, T-111 covered and painted 2000 square foot framed structure. The Before & After pictures certainly indicate that they achieved this goal.

The DeBernardis had pretty much settled on siding for their home when Rick noticed one of our advertisements in a log home magazine. The ad led him to our web site where he noticed our half log, hand peeled look siding in the "What's New?" Section of the site. Because he had such a good feel for the look his clients were trying to achieve, he instinctively suspected he'd found a better answer for the DeBernardis. He called and asked for samples, which we sent via UPS the same day. Rick presented samples to his clients and the rest is history.


	In this application, the siding is thicker than the corner trim boards. Many people opt for corner boards that are slightly thicker than the siding.

Rick installed the siding directly over the existing T-111 exterior using long screws and a new Porter Cable 350 Coil Nailer with 31/4" coated nails. He opted for the posted corner look, using 6" wide material that he bought locally. Glu-Lam-Log can also provide corner stock milled from the same material that is used to make the siding. Real log corners are also available, but it seems like nearly 75% of the folks who use our siding opt for the posted corner look because it's easier to install, less costly, and requires less maintenance. Rick also completely tore out and replaced the old porch with one that better matched the new décor. The roof also got a complete makeover. Next on the agenda will be the application of cultured river rock to the entire foundation. We've been promised additional pictures when that part of the project is complete.
