Better Late Than Never….

That’s what Bill Curtis said when he called us up last summer to tell us that he and his wife were finally coming to pick up the log cabin siding they needed to revamp their 20’x 70’ mobile home.

Bill first came across our siding when he visited our web site in September of 1997. We sent him one of the thousand or so sample packages we ship out every year and even included actual pieces of siding coated with a protective exterior wood finish. The Curtises were impressed with the siding and intuitively knew it would give them the log home effect they were looking for.

However, like many of the do-it-yourselfers we deal with, Bill lives by a philosophy that says he’d rather own his house than have it own him. "I have two teenage daughters and that qualifies me as a non-profit organization!" says Bill. So, the project was put off for a bit while the Curtises saved up for the remodeling project…. and while Bill worked up the courage to take it on.

Late last spring, Bill pulled his own trailer from Prescott, Washington to our mill to pick up the log cabin siding and wood finish necessary to give his mobile home a complete makeover.

Although we can arrange for shipment anywhere in the country, each year a dozen or two families pick up product at our mill as an excuse to visit Montana.
Log cabin siding applied to playhouse
The Curtises used the extra siding from their home project to makeover their daughter's playhouse.
Many come from a lot farther away than Prescott, WA. Most take a couple of days to visit Glacier or Yellowstone Park. Both parks are within three our four hours of our location. When he returned home, Bill dove right into the project. The results speak for themselves.

Bill is especially pleased that he took the time to prefinish his siding with a professional wood finish before nailing it to the walls. We recommend that folks put a base coat of a protective wood finish on the back of the siding to improve stability. Those who take this extra step never regret it.

As is usually the case with our siding, the scrap rate was so low that Bill had some material left over. So he sided his daughter Becky's playhouse. Becky always wanted a tree house, but one important element was missing -- there were no big trees in the yard. So, her grandpa built a treeless tree house for her. The leftover siding was just perfect for making Becky's house match the newly remodeled mobile home.

Now the neighbors are asking where the siding came from. According to Bill, we'll be hearing from some of those neighbors this summer.
