Carl Parson's Bicycle Hobby Grows into a Museum

Log Cabin Siding on museum
Carl's bicycle museum, finished with Glu-Lam-Log log cabin siding.

Carl Parsons built this structure to house his collection of vintage bicycles from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Carl chose standard siding from Glu-Lam-Log to finish the outside of the building because it looked nice from the highway and it complimented his bicycle collection. Carl sided the exterior of the building in 1998 and liked the results so much that he used the same product on his home two years later.

When we asked Carl how he got into his bicycle collecting hobby he replied, "There's always money in junk." That opinion stems from the fact that he practically grew up in the antique store owned by his folks. As Carl tells the story, "About ten years ago I found myself without transportation. That wouldn't have been so bad, but I'm a muscian. I play lead guitar and find myself having to travel around town. When I found myself without a car, my folks remembered an old Schwinn bike that they had back in the store. At 66 pounds, it was more than a toy, and those big wheels, built in horn, lights, wide tires, and shocks made it pretty road worthy. So, I started riding it to gigs. I liked it so much that I started checking out classified ads, auctions, and farm sales. At last count I had something like 200 of them."

You might say this structure is Carl's personal Bicycle Museum, but he's delighted to share it with anyone who happens by and shows interest.

Carl says he's just about ready to give the interior of the museum a log look and promises to send us pictures of his house and the inside of his museum soon. We'll post them as soon as they arrive.
