Glu-Lam-Log Introduces New Round/Round Logs

If making laminated decking available has been a recurring request, then making milled logs available that are round on the outside and just as round on the inside has been an outright demand. D shaped logs are popular, but it seems just as many people want a log with a distinctly round curvature on the inside. These logs seem to be a perfect fit for folks who like handcrafted homes but aren't willing to pay the price tag for one. The profile also seems to interest people who want a finer milled surface than is typically available on turned logs.

Although we could point to a number of orders that were lost because we did not mill this profile, we resisted making it because it was so hard to mill to the consistent standard of quality that we demand of ourselves. Now, after years of experimenting with profiles and fixturing methods, we're delighted to announce the availability of round/round logs for immediate shipment. The logs are available in both laminated and solid log configurations.

In laminated logs, the round/round profile is available in 6 1/2" and 8 1/2" stack heights, but only in 5 lamination configurations. A four lam version of the logs would be too "skinny" an would not provide adequate bearing surface. The laminated Round/Round log features the same exterior profile and drip lip as our laminated D logs.

The roundness of the log is limited only by the thickness of the interior lamination. A matching interior paneling is also available to complement these logs. Like other laminated logs, the Round/Round profile is available in all pine or pine and cedar combinations and you can expect virtually no cracking, warping, or twisting.

Solid logs milled to the Round/Round profile are available only in the 8x8 size and milled from the same stock we use to mill our western white wood and western red cedar D Logs. The exterior profile is somewhat different than the pattern employed on laminated logs and features a drip V to help shed water.

If you have a preference for round logs, these profiles may be the answer. They're absolutely beautiful and there is no additional charge for running them.
