What do you mean by the ‘Logs Only’ approach to log home construction?
This refers to the way we sell you materials for your home. We sell only the logs, siding, decking, beams, etc. that you need to build your home. All materials are then cut and assembled on-site by the builder. In response to frequent customer and builder requests, we will notch corners for you at our factory if you prefer.
Does Glu-Lam-Log offer any kits?
No. Once a kit is manufactured, you are locked into a design. Structural changes at the building site are impossible. Our company philosophy is based on the idea that you can save time, money, and frustration while retaining flexibility if you buy only the materials and perform all construction on-site. It is important to note, however, that our logs can be substituted for the logs used in any kit plan.
How does the ‘Logs Only’ approach compare to a kit from a price standpoint?
For products of similar quality, you will, without question, save money using the ‘Logs Only’ approach! By ordering the materials alone, you avoid the overhead, extra costs, and markup that kit manufacturers are forced to build into their homes. Since lead-time is far shorter, you don’t have to tie up your money by ordering months in advance. The amount of waste during the construction is drastically reduced, because you are able to choose the right log to fit in the right space. You also save money by cutting out middlemen when purchasing components such as windows and doors locally. Builders and do-it-yourselfers report that they have saved many thousands of dollars using ‘Logs Only’ approach.
When it comes to ease of construction how does the ‘Logs Only’ approach compare to a kit?
Very favorably! While kit construction sounds convenient, builders report that many adjustments and/or repairs must be made on-site. Why pay to have your house built twice? With the ‘Logs Only’ approach, all cutting and assembling is done as part of the final construction process. Another definite advantage of the ‘Logs Only’ approach is flexibility. You retain the ability to make modifications during the building process.
Does Glu-Lam offer a standard set of floor plans?
No. Since our ‘Logs Only’ approach can be used for virtually any set of plans, it’s unnecessary for us to offer a standard set. That’s part of the beauty of the ‘Logs Only’ approach!
I already have a set of plans. Can I still use Glu-Lam-Logs?
Yes! Again, that’s the great thing about our ‘Logs Only’ approach. Our logs are grade stamped and comply with all major building codes. Dimensionally, many of our logs are direct replacements for other logs. It is usually very easy for your architect, designer, or builder to substitute our logs into your existing plans.
