Construction Tips
We get a constant stream of suggestions on how to apply our products from people in the field. Sometimes we’re even lucky enough to receive photos that show the application. Here are just a few of them. Use these helpful hints and examples of ways to work with our laminated log, traditional log and log cabin siding products.
Using Siding and Decking for Greater Energy Efficiency
The Objective:
For the extremely energy conscious person, combine the R-value of traditional insulation with the thermal mass of wood.
Hint:
Use standard 2x6 construction sandwiched between laminated log cabin siding on the outside and laminated T&G decking on the inside. You end up with an R19 wall and the thermal mass of a 6x8 log.
Removing Lines from Laminated Logs
The Objective:
Making the exposed ends of laminated logs look like finely milled solid timbers.
Hint:
You don't have to hide the wood. Be creative. The extraordinary dryness and stability of our laminated logs allow you to shape and sand. Lamination lines will virtually disappear.
Creating a Chinked Look with Siding
The Objective:
Giving a natural chinked look to exterior siding or interior rounded paneling.
Hint:
Use a siding or paneling pattern that is not shiplapped. Apply individual courses with a space between them. Apply chinking in the void. The result is a more rustic look and a perfect and very flexible seal.
