The Log Homes Builder

The Log Home Builder

T.F. "Mac" and Ettie McMinn, Log Homes BuildersTell me about the 'logs only' approach from a builder's point of view.

By purchasing logs 'by the foot', I can work from almost any floor plan to build a custom home. I just work out the footage and order what I need.

A big advantage is being able to work directly from the stack of lumber... it's very efficient for the crew on site.

There are a lot of sources... why do you choose to work with Glu-Lam?

The Glu-Lam product is, if there is such a thing, a perfect log from my point of view. As far as working with Bob and Phil, they don't throw you any curves. They are straightforward and honest. Anything that comes up, you can work things out.

Why not modify a kit?

The thing with a kit is, no matter how careful you are in ordering, you can't make any changes on site. Say the customer wants to move a window or add a window, whatever, you can't do it. With the Glu-Lam product, you can make those kind of decisions.

With a kit, you have to search through the load for pre-numbered pieces. It's time consuming and expensive. I've built a couple of kit homes, and I won't do it again!

Lets talk bottom line...

With the Glu-Lam product, I can save my customers an average of $10,000 over a kit house, and still make a profit.
